Following the rollout of the U16 social media ban in Australia, The British government wants to hear our views regarding young people’s use of digital technology (including social media). This consultation opened at the beginning of March, and is available to complete for anyone living in the UK until the 26th of May 2026.

Whilst the consultation will focus on a potential U16 ban, it will also explore whether there should be a limit to addictive features on social media apps, such as infinite scrolling and autoplay; age verification technologies and their effectiveness; as well as whether there should be statutory measures introduced to enforce no phones in schools.
Alongside this consultation, 300 teenagers across the UK will participate in a pilot scheme assessing the impact of digital restrictions on sleep, family life and schoolwork. They will be put into four different groups, with varying levels of access to social media. The goal is to give real-world evidence and weight to the findings of the consultation.
If you have not already done so, click the link here and complete the consultation. It’s time to make your voice and your experiences heard.
